Even an inexperienced master can easily learn how to make a chicken cage, because the beauty of the cage is not important for keeping this bird. First, you need to stock up on appropriate materials and boldly get to work. These homemade chicken cages do not take up much space, and in a double-tailed cage you can immediately contain up to 15 laying hens per square meter.
Self-made chicken cages
Before you build a cage for chickens, you need to sketch a drawing. It should be noted that for one chicken, the cell should approximately correspond to the following sizes: height – 520 millimeters, length – 525 millimeters, width – 610 millimeters. In addition to everything between the lower and upper row of cells, it is necessary that there is a reserve for the pallet. In one row it is worth arranging several cells of such a plan, it is necessary to make two levels. The cage should not lie on the floor, so you should add a couple of centimeters for the legs. Now you need to proceed to the calculation of the total height and length of the cell.
If the chickens are constantly in the cage, it is recommended to lay wooden planks on the floor so that the chickens are comfortable walking. Otherwise, deformation or frequent damage to the legs may occur. For greater convenience, you can sprinkle straw.
A metal corner measuring 40x40x5 or 50x50x5 needs to be cut out the necessary details in the form of 4 vertical posts, 6 horizontal short bars and 6 long ones. The resulting parts should be welded into the cell frame. After the design is checked for reliability and stability.
The floors of the cells are made of galvanized welded wire mesh. By the way, the floor should have a slight slope (for the comfort of the chickens themselves) so that laid eggs roll out from under the chicken. This slope is recommended to be done in the direction of the front side of the cell. Below with the help of a net it is worth making a special shelf for eggs, which will ensure the safe storage of eggs for the purpose of their subsequent selection.
Using a sheet of galvanized styles above the shelf that is designed for eggs, you should make a feeder. To make it, you need to cut a strip from steel, the width of which is 30 centimeters, and the length corresponds to the length of the cage. Then it is bent in a special way: at a distance of 8 centimeters, it is necessary to make a bend of 95 degrees, then after measuring another 5 centimeters, repeat the bend, but at about 100 degrees. With the help of a hook, it is worth bending the end that is longer. Just it will be touched by the front edge of the cell. Just it will be attached to the front edge of the cage.
From welded rods with a horizontal grid, it is necessary to divide the cells. A galvanized iron tray can already be placed on the grid. In this way, the chicken, which is on the floor at an angle from the net, will always be clean, because all waste products will be in the pan.
Such cages can be equipped with special drinking bowls: a container of water is placed on the top of the cage, a hose is attached to the bottom and water is passed to each of the cells. In order for the water to reach a certain level and stop flowing, you can use a float from the toilet.
As for the back wall of the chicken cage, it is best to make it from a sheet of iron or plywood. But the front wall, as a rule, is made of wide rods, which are bent so that the chicken can drink water freely from the feeder. In the end, do not forget about the personal doors for each cell, which are made with hooks or latches.
Thus, the manufacture of cages for chickens occurs. By putting food in the cells, you can safely run chickens there. By the way, before launching a new calf into the cage, it should be completely disinfected, and then thoroughly dried. This method will help to avoid diseases of young animals.
